January 20 TAOL showcase recap!!!

All TAOL crews started the year on the good foot like James Brown on January 20th. Sharing the stage were some supreme kings spitting and wax spinnin. Opening the show we had Rochester, NY's own SAI and the 4th Sight giving us a nice blend of empowerment/where I'm from/street verses indicative of the upstate experience. All the way from Strong Island, the Uzual Suspectz duo made some new BX fans with their 90's style hustle wordplay, making you want to grab your crotch with your sippie cup hand all night.  Doing double duty, Morbius of the duo the Sargonites, came onto the scene solo and sick, but as expected made an impact with sharp rhymes and rap scholar challenges. For the first official time, Yahzeed held the crowds attention with an ill preview of his new LP. Technical difficulties could not suppress this veteran wordsmiths intricate poetry - he killed it and hopefully comes back for more in the near future. Last to the mic were one of my personal favorite South Bronx crews Ghetto Transcends Potential, GTP.  These brothers make it so that no matter where you @, every time you hear Next Up you start chanting Pavlovian style.  To close up the night, the Buc 50 Kuttas performed an amazing set that included 3 turntables, some 45s, and truckloads of imagination and table. No where in the BX will you see a turntablist set like the one witnessed on this evening - unfortunately rare, and definitely necessary.  As always FredOnes did his thing as resident DJ as did Polarity and ofcourse Rhino made you remember why reality hurts. Shouts to PAUSE Productions, Iz the Truth, Mala and Mental, Mainland Media, Real Phresh Music, and RDAC plus everyone who showed up to support and represent lovely with us.   Always pleased to be a part of a growing community with you all. See you next month.
